Skin peels use controlled application of acid solutions to remove the outermost layers of skin, revealing fresher smoother skin. Depending on the strength and type of peel, they can improve skin texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, fade pigmentation and age spots, evens out skin tone, treats acne, rosacae, brightens your complexion, reduces pore size and improves absorption.
Light peels require minimal downtime whilst deeper peels create more dramatic results but need longer recovery. Most people benefit from a course of peels rather than a single treatment.
Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed before the peel solution is carefully applied to the treatment area and left for a specific time depending on the peel strength. You will likely feel a tingling or mild burning sensation during application, which intensifies briefly before the solution is neutralised and removed. The entire process typically takes 30-45 minutes including pre-treatment preparation and post-peel care.
Your skin may appear red immediately after treatment, similar to a mild sunburn depending on strength of the peel. Over the following days your skin may feel tight and dry, peeling or flaking usually begins 2-3 days after treatment and can last up to a week. The skin beneath may appear pink and sensitive for a few days afterwards requiring use of an SPF50 to be applied during the healing process.
